Legislative Updates from Rep. Fritts

For my October 2024 local business highlight, I chose to highlight Ziggie’s Family Restaurant in Mendota because of their hard work and dedication to helping others. Ziggie’s is a staple in our community, and they do so much to give back.

Ziggie’s Family Restaurant is a third-generation family-owned business, first founded in 1972 by Ziggie. It was bought by his nephew Musa Zendeli in 1984 and passed down to his son, and current owner Benny and his wife Vjolca in 2015.

It is no easy task to run a small, family-owned restaurant, especially during hard times like the COVID-19 pandemic. I commend Benny and Vjolca for their commitment to Ziggie’s and for their continued contributions to our community. Whether it’s working alongside the local chamber of commerce, supporting Boy and Girl Scout troops, or even providing meals to the Mendota Fire Department during the Mendota fires, Ziggie’s truly uplifts our community.

Ziggie’s Family Restaurant is located at 1212 1st Avenue in Mendota. For more information, visit their website at ZiggiesRestaurant.com.

Regardless of who you vote for this year, make sure you vote before 7 p.m. tomorrow evening!

Voting is one of the most important parts of our nation’s democracy and I encourage everyone to engage with our civic process.

Our Household Hazardous Waste Collection Drive was a huge success! Thanks to House Republican Leader Tony McCombie, Sauk Valley Community College, and the Illinois EPA for partnering with us on this event to make our homes and communities safer!

My office attended Biz Boo Trick or Treat, hosted by the Rock Falls Chamber. Thanks to the chamber and everyone who participated in this fun event!

I am truly so honored to have received the Illinois Farm Bureau Friends of Agriculture Award! As a farmer, I will always fight to ensure our voices are heard in Springfield. Thank you to the Lee County Farm Bureau for presenting me with this award!

The Trick or Treat Safe House in Rochelle was a huge hit this year, with over 1,100 attendees! I am thrilled that we were able to participate in this fun and safe way to celebrate Halloween.

My office participated in Trunk or Treat at Washington School in Dixon. While I sadly couldn’t attend because I was busy harvesting, my scarecrow was there in spirit! Hope everyone had a fun and safe night!

My staff attended the Rock River Valley Self Help Enterprises, Inc. Awards Banquet and 60th-anniversary celebration last week. Self Help is a fantastic local non-profit that offers programs and services for individuals with special needs. Congratulations to Self Help on 60 years of incredible service to our community!

Huge shoutout to my Deputy Chief of Staff Piper for participating in the monthly Leadership Academy series, hosted by the Rochelle Chamber of Commerce. This month, the theme was transportation and participants visited Burlington Junction Railway, Rochelle Municipal Airport, Reagan Mass Transit, and Roy’s Transfer. Always appreciate my staff taking opportunities to learn more and bring that knowledge to the work we do for the 74th!

During my time touring the 74th District, I’ve heard from many constituents and organizations who want to support our local communities but don’t know where to start. To meet this need, I am proud to introduce my new ‘Community Calendar’ on my official state website! Here, residents can view upcoming community events in one streamlined location.
