E-News Updates from Rep. Fritts – March 24, 2026

Good afternoon,

Our 2026 spring session is finally beginning to ramp up. This Friday is our House Bill Committee Deadline, meaning all House bills need to be passed out of their respective committees.

These deadline weeks always come with surprises and last-minute attempts to sneak controversial bills in at the last moment. It seems one large focus this year is to continue the infringement on our Second Amendment rights. More information about one of these bad bills is below.

On a positive note, my fellow Republicans and I have been working to get common-sense legislation through committee to tackle the most important issues facing Illinois residents. Property tax relief, lowering the cost of living, and public safety reform are top priorities for House Republicans.

Upcoming Session Days:

  • March 24-27
  • April 7-9

Keep up to date with scheduled session and committee times here.

Sign the Petition to Stop Illinois Democrats’ Ammo Tax & Serialization Bill!

House Bill 4414 represents yet another government overreach targeting law-abiding gun owners while doing nothing to stop actual criminals.

Here’s what this bill does to YOU:

  • Forces every bullet you buy to be tracked, registered, and tied to your name in a government database because Springfield politicians think you’re a suspect.
  • Slaps fees of up to 5 cents per round on ammunition & a hidden tax on your constitutional rights.
  • Makes it a criminal offense to possess your own legally purchased ammunition in public without government-approved serialization.
  • Creates a massive new bureaucracy with zero evidence it will reduce crime.
  • This bill treats every Illinois gun owner as a criminal-in-waiting, buries small retailers in new registration mandates, and builds a de facto ammunition ownership registry that privacy-conscious citizens should find alarming.

Don’t let Springfield turn your Second Amendment rights into a government permission slip! This isn’t about safety, it’s about control. Illinois Democrats already gave us some of the strictest gun laws in America; FOID cards, concealed carry restrictions, assault weapon bans, and crime is still out of control.

Join in the fight to say NO to this government overreach by signing my petition in opposition to this bill! Click here to access the petition.

Medicare 101

Join my office and the Northwestern Illinois Area Agency on Aging for an informational Medicare 101 event on Monday, April 20th from 4:00-6:00 PM. The event will be hosted at the Mills & Petrie Memorial Library, located at 704 N. 1st Street in Ashton.

I encourage local seniors to attend and take advantage of this free event!

Community Outreach

Head Start in Mendota welcomed me for a visit and tour of their facility. I spoke with teachers about their work and had the chance to read two books to the kids. It was great to see the important work being done to provide daycare in our region!

Congratulations to the Dixon High School Boys Cross Country Team on their Class 2A State Championship win! The team won back in November of 2025, but I stopped by Dixon High School this week to present them with the resolution I filed in the House to honor their achievement. Keep up the great work!

The Rock Falls Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual dinner, and it was a huge success! I appreciated the opportunity to join in the celebration of the hard work the chamber has been doing.

I continued my mission to tour every school in the 74th by visiting multiple Rochelle elementary schools. I visited Stepping Stones (Pre-K), Lincoln School (K & 1st Grade), Central School (2nd & 3rd Grade), and Tilton School (4th & 5th Grade). I shared great conversations with the faculty and staff at these schools and enjoyed the opportunity to see the work they are doing for our next generation!

I toured the Whiteside Area Career Center in Sterling, alongside Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie. The WACC is an incredible asset to our community as they provide 12 hand-on career pathways in essential fields such as automotive technology, welding, early childhood education, and more. It was a pleasure to learn more about how we can support their mission and develop more educational and career opportunities for our most critical industries.

Congratulations to the Polo High School Football Team for making it to the Illinois State Football Championship last year! I was proud to visit the team last week and deliver the resolution I filed in the Illinois House to honor their hard work.

I was honored to personally deliver the resolution I filed in honor of the Mendota Trojans Boys Soccer Team as recognition for making it to the Class 1A State Final. This was the best season in program history, and I can’t wait to see their continued success next season!
